Endangered Species List
The United States government, primarily through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, maintains a list of threatened and endangered species present within the United States borders. The Endangered Species Act requires the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list animals after any petitioner shows such animals are in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of their habitat range.
